Angie Stone Analysis

For our CD cover ideas we had analysed Angie Stone's Mahogany Soul and explained how it links to her personality, music and over all my views of the album cover. The main image of the artist shows her to be peaceful, natural and calm relating to the colours and her facial expression. The shot is indirect and subverts the normal conform of looking into the camera inviting the audience. Although she looks away from the camera and looks above maybe signifying peace and nature. The colours also link to her being calm and peaceful as well as linking to the name of the album cover . Mahogany is a deep brown colour and the colours of her album is brown. The image suggest she is humble and proud but not in an arrogant way. The composition and the layout shows the main image of the artist as a close up suggest her high status of an artist as well as show her face not her body.Central framed, implies that everything is hers including the music, its all original. Also the layout is simplistic. Her appearance in the shot is simplistic and her make up is natural and not over done showing the simplicity of her and the album. We see that she is not wearing no jewellery and not "blinged out" as she feels like that's not what her music is about. We see that she links her music to the album showing she is not fake and materialistic but simple and down to earth. The colour mahogany also links to the shot of her as it blends on with her Afro. The typography is simplistic, sophisticated and easy to read. We see she had the colour cream to also link to the simplicity of her album. The typography colour links to the brown in her album. The colours all link with each other the use of brown and cream and the prop which is the twigs also link to the name of her album. Overall the album cover suggest she is down to earth, humble and that she takes her music seriously as she subverts the direct gaze pose and subverts the male gaze. We also see that she uses a close up of herself showing that she wants people to see her face rather than her body.

Timings of Location Shots

When shooting the scenes for our videos we had used our time up during half term to shoot the love scenes with Noor and Micheal as a couple in Central London and took different shots in Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and St James Park. We had met on Tuesday 26th October to film the shots of her waiting in Trafalgar Square for her boyfriend and we took some shots of her in St James Park. Then the following day we had met again to do the love scenes between her and Michael in St James Park sitting down and talking and then the shots of Michael buying a teddy bear for her n Leicester Square.
